Here's a cute look at it from kids' perspectives

Discussion:
1. What is the Bible?
It is God's love story to mankind - through which He reveals His "Plan of Loving Goodness"
2. What's in the Bible?
The Bible is made up of a series of books, divided into the Old Testament and the New Testament.
The Old Testament, which has 46 books*, is the original Hebrew Bible and is the sacred scriptures of the Jewish faith. It traces the period from Creation to the just before Jesus was born.
The New Testament, which has 27 books, records the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and His earliest followers.
Even though the books in the Bible were written hundreds of years apart, it tells a single story. Together, the Old and New Testaments tell us God's plan for mankind and His Revelation. The Old Testament prepares for the New, and the New Testament fulfills the Old (CCC** 140).
*The Catholic Bible has 46 books, while the Protestant Bible has 39 books.
** CCC - Cathechism of the Catholic Church
3. Who wrote it? How do we know that it's true?
God is the author of the Bible. While the bible was physically recorded by lots of people across different time periods, all the human authors wrote under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. To compose the sacred books, God chose writers, and worked through them to write what He wanted written (CCC 106). It is because of this that the bible is also known as the "Word of God".
4. Why is it important for us to know the bible?
It is through the Bible that we get to know God and how much He loves us
The Bible teaches us how God wants us to live
For the next few months, we will be journeying together through the Bible to learn about God's love and his plan for us.
Option for older kids:
For older kids>10, a great resource to use is the Bible Project. Here's their introductory video on the bible. You may wish to use this instead of the video above.
