FAMILY DEVOTIONS

Come together (regularly) as a family to pray and learn about God's love!

If you're new to family devotions, here're some ideas to get you started:

1. SET ASIDE TIME

Set aside a regular family prayer time with your family, either on a daily or weekly basis.
In our family, we do short devotions nightly (10 min) and longer ones on Saturday afternoons (30-45 min).

3. ESTABLISH FORMAT

We find it helpful to have a regular format for family devotions.

This is the format we use:

(1) Adoration

We start with a hymn (chosen by the kids)

(2) Opening Prayer

We thank God for bringing us together, to be with us and bless our family devotion time, and to open our hearts and minds to his word.

(3) Examen (5 min)

We reflect on our day/week and share with each other:

What would we like to thank God for?

What are we sorry for and would like to seek forgiveness?

(4) Scripture/Focus for the Day (5-20 min)

We choose a topic/series to do with the kids. It could be the day's scripture readings or other themes. For example, we journeyed through salvation history with them for about a year.

(5) Looking ahead

We reflect on their next day/week:

What are things which we would like to ask for God’s help?

Intercession: Who can we pray for, who may may need God’s help?

(6) Closing prayer

2. SET RULES

Establish ground rules and expected behaviour for your kids during prayer time.
